Nvidia Says Crypto Drop-Off Helped Drive ‘Disappointing’ Fourth Quarter

U.S.-based graphics card maker Nvidia has said the downturn in sales to cryptocurrency miners drove a “disappointing” fourth quarter.

In its latest financial report, published Thursday, the firm said for Q4, ending Jan. 27, it made revenue of $2.21 billion, down 24 percent from $2.91 billion in the same quarter last year, and down 31 percent from $3.18 billion in the previous quarter.

8 Illicit Crypto-Mining Windows Apps Removed From Microsoft Store

A number of apps in Microsoft’s app store have been found to be able to illicitly mine cryptocurrency.

The eight apps, discovered by Symantec on Jan. 17, hosted a version of Coinhive, a script for mining the monero cryptocurrency that has proved popular with cyber criminals.

NYSE Arca Filing Kicks Off Countdown for New Bitcoin ETF

The clock just started on the latest effort to launch a bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF).

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced it was beginning its review of a bitcoin ETF rule change proposal filed by NYSE Arca and Bitwise Asset Management on Feb. 11, and the proposal itself was published in the Federal Register on Feb. 15, meaning the regulator has 45 days to make its initial decision on whether to approve, reject or extend the proposal.

Luxembourg Passes Bill to Give Blockchain Securities Legal Status

The European nation of Luxembourg has just passed a bill providing a legal framework for securities issued over blockchains.

According to a notice published Thursday, the country’s Chamber of Deputies, the county’s parliament, passed the bill on Feb. 14 with 58 members supporting the legislation and only two voting against.
